Lightbox.group="my_group"; Lighbox.show(' <my content> ') FAILS

I want to show several HTML conents in lightbox popups.
It works fine until I'd also would like to link them into gallery
with 'next' / 'prev' buttons.
But setting any of these two:
HTML: <a ... rel="lightbox[my_group]">
JS: Lightbox.group="my_group";
Loads current page into lightbox instead of given html content in show().
Is it a bug or just known limitation?
